Before you book a music teacher
Music teachers need no licence, so the checks are about safety and what you want out of the lessons.
Do they have a DBS check?
Anyone teaching children one to one should hold an enhanced DBS certificate and be willing to show it. Ask; a good teacher expects the question.
Grades, or playing for pleasure?
Some teachers are geared to ABRSM and Trinity exams, some to playing what you like. Say which you want at the first lesson.
Where do lessons happen?
At the teacher's home, at yours, or online. It affects the price and, for a piano, whether you need an instrument in the house.
