Terms of use
Last updated 28 September 2026
EveryVillage is run by EveryVillage Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, number 17404747. These terms cover using the website. Businesses that pay for a page are also bound by the Provider Agreement, and how we handle personal information is in the privacy policy. Using the site means you accept these terms.
What a listing means
There are two kinds of listing on this site, and the difference matters.
- A partner carries a green or clay badge. A business partner has spoken to us, confirmed every word on its page, and agreed to the standards in the Provider Agreement. What we check, and what we do not, is set out at How we check our partners. A village partner, such as a hall, a church or a community group, has a page we compiled from what it publishes about itself, and it has not been asked to agree to anything.
- An ordinary listing is a name, a trade and a place taken from public sources, such as the business’s own website or a public directory. We have not spoken to the business, we have not checked it, and it may be out of date or wrong. Each such page says so.
In neither case do we inspect anyone’s work, hold a licence for them or take part in any job. Whatever you agree with a business is between you and them. Please check for yourself that a trade holds the registration the work needs, using the questions on our trade pages as a start.
Recommendations
Recommendations are written by visitors, not by us. Every one is read by a person before it is published, and we may edit a name to a first name or take out a surname, an address or a phone number. We do not verify that the work described was done, except where a recommendation is marked as coming from a verified customer, which means the business sent that person a one-time link after a job.
By leaving a recommendation you agree that
- you used the business yourself and are writing about your own experience,
- you are not the business, a member of its staff or family, or a competitor, and nothing was offered to you in return,
- it names no other business, carries no web address, and says nothing about anyone but the business and the job,
- it is true to the best of your knowledge, and you understand that the business may see it and may ask us about it,
- we may publish it on the business’s page, credited by your first name and village, and may decline or remove it without giving a reason.
Sending a recommendation by any automated means, or sending more than one for the same business, is not allowed and such recommendations are removed.
Reporting a recommendation
If a recommendation about you or your business is untrue, unfair or should not be there, tell us. Every published recommendation has a “Report this recommendation” link under it, which opens a private message to us with the recommendation already identified, or you can write to hello@everyvillage.co.uk. We acknowledge every report within 48 hours, take the recommendation down while we look at it where the report gives a reason to, and tell you what we have decided. Nothing you tell us in a report is published.
If you are listed and would rather not be
A business on an ordinary listing can have it corrected or removed by using the links at the foot of its page, or by writing to us. We remove a listing when asked, without asking why. A partner’s page comes down under the terms of the Provider Agreement. We refer to a business by its trading name so that residents can find it, which is not a claim to any name or mark.
Using the site
- You may read, link to and share anything on the site. You may not copy the directory, in whole or in part, to build another one, sell it, or send unsolicited marketing to the businesses in it.
- You may not use automated tools to submit forms, scrape pages or load the site in a way that interferes with other people using it. The forms carry checks against this, and submissions that fail them are not sent.
- The writing, photographs and design on partner and village pages belong to us or to the business or venue that supplied them, and are published here with their permission. A photograph on a compiled page is one the venue has itself published, and the page says where it came from.
Our responsibility
We take care over the site, but we do not promise that every listing is accurate or that the site is always available. We are not responsible for work done, or not done, by any business listed here, for anything said in a recommendation, or for the content of other websites we link to. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have as a consumer under the law, or our liability for anything the law does not allow us to exclude.
Complaints and the law
Complaints about a partner follow the process at How we check our partners. Complaints about us go to hello@everyvillage.co.uk and we reply within five working days. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. We may update them, and will change the date at the top when we do.
