Pamber Forest

Nature reserve

EveryVillage Partner

An old oak and hazel wood on the edge of the village, with a waymarked trail and a car park on Impstone Road.

About

Pamber Forest runs along the western edge of Pamber Heath, what is left of a medieval royal forest and today a nature reserve, Pamber Forest and Upper Inhams Copse. The borough council leases it from the Englefield Estate and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust has managed it since 1997. It is mostly sessile oak with hazel coppice underneath, part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest with Silchester Common, and more than seven hundred kinds of moth and butterfly have been recorded in it, the purple emperor among them. A two mile waymarked trail starts from the gravel car park on Impstone Road, and dogs are to be kept on a lead.

Venues and community places are listed as EveryVillage partners. We wrote this page ourselves, from information Pamber Forest and others have published. Compiled 30 September 2026 from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust's pages for the reserve (size, management, wildlife, trail and car park), Natural England's SSSI entry and Basingstoke and Deane's list of local nature reserves. Read through search results of those pages. Not yet plotted, as no position for the postcode has been established. If you help run it, send us a correction or ask us to take the page down.
