Things to do in Bramley

Bramley has a meadow in the middle of it that two brothers left to the village, a Grade I church with a physicist in the churchyard, and a show that's run for nearly forty years. Here's what there is, the free things first.

Out and about

Free, and nobody to book with.

  • Clift Meadow

The open meadow in the middle of the village, left to the parish by the Clift brothers. A fenced play area for under fives, redone in 2020, an outdoor gym, two tennis courts, an all weather court for football and basketball, and a village garden, a wildflower patch and a bee garden kept by volunteers.

  • The Silchester Trail from the station

The waymarked walk to the Roman town starts from Bramley station as well as from Silchester, up to eight miles with shorter cuts of three or four. The leaflet is at the Bramley Inn.

  • St James' Church

Grade I, begun around 1160 on Saxon foundations, with medieval wall paintings uncovered in the 1870s. The physicist Lise Meitner, who explained nuclear fission, is buried in the churchyard.

  • Bramley Green

Owned by the Stratfield Saye Estate and left to grow wild by agreement with the parish council, with Wilder Bramley's boards along the path across it and a new wildflower area.

  • The Parish Green on Longbridge Road

Bought by the parish council in 2024 to keep it a village green, with the paths resurfaced, the old oaks kept and the northern end left to wildlife.

  • The allotments

Two sites, St James Park off Minchens Lane and Gray's Meadow on Silchester Road, twenty four half plots each, with one waiting list through the parish clerk.
