Electricians in Tadley

Overview

Tadley's postwar estates were wired to the standards of their decade, and a lot of that wiring is now sixty or seventy years old. A consumer unit upgrade is the most common electrical job in the town, followed by extra sockets in rooms that were never designed for this many devices, and increasingly an EV charger on the drive. Any of those is notifiable under Part P, so the registration and the certificate matter as much as the price. Several of the electricians covering Tadley also do property maintenance, which suits a list of small jobs.

Before you book a electrician

Most electrical work in a house is notifiable, so the paperwork matters as much as the work.

  1. Are they registered with a competent person scheme?

NICEIC and NAPIT are the common ones. A registered electrician can sign off their own work under Part P of the Building Regulations and you get a certificate; otherwise the council has to inspect it, at your cost.

  2. Will you get a certificate?

A new circuit, a consumer unit or a rewire should come with an Electrical Installation Certificate, and smaller jobs with a Minor Works Certificate. You will need them when you sell the house.

  3. Have they done this kind of job before?

An EV charger, a rewire of an old cottage and an outdoor socket are different jobs. Ask for a similar one they have done locally.
