Things to do in Pamber End

Pamber End is a few houses on the Basingstoke road with the remains of a Norman priory at one end and a sixteenth century pub at the other. The Vyne and Pamber Forest are both a short drive.

Out and about

Free, and nobody to book with.

  • Pamber Priory

The chancel and tower of a Benedictine priory founded around 1110 and consecrated in 1128, all that was left after Eton pulled the rest down in the fifteenth century. The Queen's College, Oxford rebuilt it in 1474 and still owns it. There's a service most months, and no toilets.

  • Footpaths to The Vyne and back

Footpaths run from the lay by outside the Priory School out to The Vyne and back through Sherborne St John and Monk Sherborne, a route the Ramblers use for group walks.

  • Nearby, The Vyne

The National Trust's Tudor house and gardens, on the lane from Sherborne St John towards Bramley on the far side of the A340.

The Wildlife Trust's ancient woodland is up the A340 towards Tadley, open at all times, with the car park on Impstone Road in Pamber Heath.
