Before you book a carpenter or joiner
A carpenter builds on site and a joiner makes things in a workshop; many do both, and it helps to know which you need.
Have they made this before?
A sash window, a staircase and a fitted wardrobe are three different skills. Ask for photographs of the same kind of piece.
Who supplies the timber, and what is it?
Agree whether the wood is hardwood or softwood, and whether it comes finished or ready for painting. It changes the price more than the labour does.
Is the quote for supply and fit?
A joinery quote sometimes covers making the piece and not fitting it. Check the quote says both.
