Before you book a handyman
A handyman is for the jobs too small to book a trade for, and knowing the limits keeps everyone safe.
What will they not do?
Gas is never a handyman job, and most electrical work beyond changing a fitting is notifiable. A good handyman says so and knows who to call.
Hourly or by the job?
Half-day and hourly rates are normal for a list of small jobs. Agree the rate and a rough time before they arrive.
Are they insured?
Public liability cover is cheap and any handyman working in other people's houses should have it.
