Things to do in Mortimer Common
Mortimer has a twenty acre Fairground in the middle of it, two heritage walks the parish council has marked out, a Brunel station and a long list of clubs. Here's what there is, the free things first.
Out and about
Free, and nobody to book with.
The Mortimer heritage trails
Two circular walks of a little over two miles each, both starting from the Fairground Hall car park. One takes in the old village at Stratfield Mortimer, the station, the pond at Hammonds Heath and St Mary's. The other does the Common, the burial mounds on Catherine's Hill and the two pubs. Printed leaflets are in the library, or print the PDFs.
Their websiteThe Fairground
Twenty acres in the middle of the village, a fairground since 1802. There's a children's play park, an outdoor gym, and two tennis courts anyone can book by the hour when the club isn't using them, seven in the morning to nine at night.

The 1848 station on the Reading to Basingstoke line, the last surviving example of Brunel's design for a small station, with its matching waiting shelter over the tracks. On the first heritage walk, and worth a look whether or not you're catching a train.
St Mary's and the Saxon tombstone
The old parish church at Stratfield Mortimer, rebuilt in the 1860s on a far older site. Inside is the Aegelward stone, a Saxon tombstone found under the tower floor during the rebuild.

Bronze Age burial mounds in the trees at the crossroads, with a path from the junction and a board that explains them.
Wokefield Common
Heath and woodland between Mortimer and Burghfield Common, looked after by the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust for West Berkshire Council, with footpaths and bridleways through it and a car park off Goring Lane.
